BIO
Lalita is a professional Instructor, Performer and Choreographer of Middle-Eastern Bellydance as well as owner of Creative Vibraitons Yoga Studio and Magic Lantern Bellydance Entertainment in Astoria, NY.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
Lalita's Dance Technique spans a diverse vocabulary of Egyptian, Turkish, Modern, Ballet and Flamenco styling, always emphasizing lifted posture, sensuous dance line and warm, radiant expression. Lalita is committed to teaching Middle-Eastern dance as both an artform and a fitness discipline. She believes that Bellydance is a women's version of Yoga, centered in the Mula Bandha-based spinal, abdominal and pelvic movements. The vision of Bellydance as Yoga is unique to Lalita's teaching style and performance.
Lalita encourages her students to discover their own movement vocabulary and expression in the entrancing circles, spirals and figure 8s of the Middle-Eastern dance. The Middle-Eastern dance tells a woman's story like no other dance style. Its language is both defiant and bold, visceral and psycho-erotic. The dance is a story of healing and liberation from the inner and outer demons. Lalita makes Middle-Eastern dance very accessible to beginners as well as fitness-oriented students, while teaching challenging, intricate nuances of technique and expression to intermediate and professional dancers.
INFLUENCES:
Lalita's journey of Middle-Eastern dance began in 1998 when she started taking her first dance lessons with New York's Turkish/Romany/Fusion Dance Star, Dalia Carela. Over time, she has discovered an obsession with
the Dance after walking one day into a live performance by Elena Lentini and then coming upon Nourhan Sharif's teaching DVDs. Lalita is greatful to Anahid Sofian and Elena Lentini for the rigorous technical and artistic training in all aspects of Middle-Eastern dance vocabulary and expression she has received in their group classes in Manhattan. She is also greatful to Mahmoud Reda, the grandfather of Bellydance, for his private lessons in Cairo, Egypt. Lalita has a special affinity for the work of Yousry Sharif, whose NY Intensives she attends regularly. She is inspired by the Pharaonic style of Ayeshe, theatrical style of Ranya Renee and by many other Artists both in US and abroad. Lalita continues to be graced by the outstanding influence of these and other Master Teachers on her skills, expression and understanding of the Dance.
