ABOUT T.KRISHNAMACHARYA:
the inspiration behind our yoga teachings
Thirumalai Krishnamacharya was a yogi and a distiguished scholar from Madras, and his teaching are considered by many to be the source
of modern yoga. In his view, Yoga is a practice of "linking body movement to the breath movement".
T.Krishnamacharya was the teacher of famous B.K.Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois who have developed their own unique yoga styles (known as the Iyengar and Ashtanga Yoga) based on their studies with Krishnamacharya. However, both of these yoga masters have not focused attention on the essence of Krishnamacharya's teachings which is the Breath-Asana synchronization. In Krishnamacharya's view, yoga asanas are not to be practiced for their own sake, but as stepping stones to achieve a deeper, smoother and calmer quality of breath known in sanskrit as"Ujayii".
Unique to Krishnamacharys's teaching is the therapeutic application of Ujayii breathing in each and every asana which has a grounding and cleansing effect on our system. Breath-centered yoga practice done with complete attention is capable to regulate the flow of prana(the lifeforce) in the body.
At Creative Vibrations Yoga Studio, Krishnamacharya's Breathing Method is integrated into our teachings of yoga to create a grounding, heart-centered and transformative personal practice.
The goal of yoga besides the radiant health and the peace of mind that it naturally brings, is also the experience of "samadhi" which is a state of interrelationship with all life, the cosmic union. This union is experienced through our understanding of and settling into the breath, which is the lifeforce or "Prana" permeating our body and the universe. The success of our yoga practice is measured by our relationship with this breath.
